According to a January 2019 survey conducted by GOBankingRates.com, roughly 50% of Americans 55+ have saved less than $100,000 for retirement. Nearly 33% have saved less than $10,000. These are alarming statistics, to be sure.
Share Your Story podcast guest Annamarie Pluhar told us: “A lot of people have been hurt by the meltdown of 2008. There aren’t pensions like they’re used to be.” Concern for her fellow Boomers led Annamarie to create the nonprofit SharingHousing.org, which works to spread the idea of shared housing as an affordable housing solution. She’s also the author of Sharing Housing: A Guidebook For Finding and Keeping Good Housemates.
While Annamarie is a firm believer in the financial benefits of homesharing, she also sees a huge upside in the companionship it offers. Listen to this episode for Annamarie’s biggest insight about how to find a compatible housemate, plus a wealth of best practices and tips from Annamarie and Silvernest CEO Wendi Burkhardt. They both join co-host Patricia Raskin on our podcast, which you can check out at the link below, on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts.
