Many Americans face loneliness and isolation every day. Adult children may live across the country. Friends and neighbors have moved or passed on. It’s hard for fiercely independent people to reach out for support and senior services—especially if they don’t even know those support networks and services exist.
Barbara Sullivan is the National Director of Village to Village Network, which helps communities establish and manage their own aging-in-place initiatives called Villages. Recently, Barbara was a guest on Silvernest’s Share Your Story podcast, and she told us that “People are resistant to asking for help. They’d rather call their children, who may be millions of miles away. Once they embrace the Village concept, they find themselves a lot more independent.”
To hear more about the Village movement and Barbara’s insightful conversation with Silvernest CEO Wendi Burkhardt and co-host Patricia Raskin, listen at the link below, on iTunes, or wherever you get your podcasts.
